Many DOJ and FBI submissions are processed within several days, but completion times vary. Criminal-history information, low-quality fingerprint detail or additional agency review may cause a delay. Results are delivered to the agency that requested your background check, not to California Live Scan Service.

First contact the agency that requested your fingerprints, because that agency receives the results. You can also use the California DOJ Applicant Status Check. You will need your date of birth and the 10-digit Applicant Transaction Identifier (ATI) printed near the bottom of your completed Live Scan form.

A submission may be rejected when fingerprint ridge detail is difficult to capture because of dry or worn skin, age, scarring, medical conditions or the nature of a person’s work. If California Live Scan Service completed your original submission, we will rescan you at no additional rolling-fee charge. Bring the rejection notice and a new completed Request for Live Scan Service form to your appointment. Government or agency rules and fees may still apply.

Government fees vary according to the applicant type and the level of service requested on your form. These charges are separate from our rolling fee. If the requesting agency placed an authorized billing number on the form, the agency may be billed for eligible government fees; otherwise, the applicant is responsible for payment. See the California DOJ fee schedule for current standard fees.

Live Scan results are sent only to the agency identified on the request form. Results obtained for one employer, license, certification or volunteer position generally cannot be transferred to another requesting agency. A new position or application normally requires a new form and a separate Live Scan submission.

Yes. Group pricing may be available for organizations, employers and nonprofit groups using mobile or in-office fingerprinting. Rates depend on the number of applicants, service type, location and scheduling requirements. Contact us for a customized quote.

Yes. California residents may request a DOJ Record Review to check their own state criminal-history record for accuracy and completeness. You must use the correct Record Review form, complete a Live Scan and pay the applicable rolling and government fees. A California Record Review is not the same service as an FBI Identity History Summary or a fingerprint request for immigration, visa or foreign-country use, so please tell us the purpose of your request when scheduling.

Bring a current, unexpired government-issued photo ID. Common primary documents include a state driver’s license or identification card, a U.S. passport or passport card, and certain federal, military, immigration or foreign-passport documents that satisfy California DOJ requirements. If you do not have a standard primary ID, contact us before your appointment so we can explain the applicable secondary-document requirements.
